Philip Pence is a partner at Thomas Mamer and an experienced employment law and complex litigation attorney. His practice focuses on employment law, business disputes, complex litigation, and advising small businesses and nonprofit organizations.

Philip represents clients in a wide range of employment law matters, including wage and hour disputes and compliance matters, employee classification issues, minimum wage and overtime compliance, off-the-clock work claims, leaves of absence, reasonable accommodations, discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination, workplace investigations, restrictive covenant disputes, and employment agreement issues. He also advises clients on workplace policies and procedures, internal investigations, reductions in force, employee discipline, workforce management, and compliance with federal and state employment laws.

Litigation is central to Philip's practice. He handles complex individual, class action, and collective action matters from pre-suit investigation through trial and appeal in administrative proceedings, state courts, and federal courts. As outside counsel to small businesses and nonprofit organizations, Philip advises on governance, regulatory compliance, employment matters, contracts, internal investigations, risk management, and business disputes. His related work includes advising professionals and organizations on privacy, licensing, regulatory, and professional responsibility issues. He represents clients across a broad range of industries, including higher education, nonprofit, healthcare, manufacturing, construction, retail, financial services, hospitality, and professional services.

Philip began his legal career at Thomas Mamer as a law clerk and associate attorney before practicing employment law in the Chicago office of an international law firm. He returned to Champaign-Urbana in 2022 and became a partner at Thomas Mamer in 2024.

Outside of his legal practice, Philip is a musician who plays drums and writes original music with his band. He also performs live and recorded session work with numerous artists.
